Why Join the Shelton Yacht Club?
The Shelton Yacht Club was founded in 1956 and is dedicated to providing fun for all its members. We’re a casual, welcoming club based in Shelton, Washington — home to sailors and power boaters alike, on the shores of South Puget Sound.

Do I Need to Own a Boat?
Yes. Everyone in the Club is a boater, or retired from boating. Member boats range from runabouts to a 61-foot motor vessel. Sail and power boats are both welcome.
Can I try it out?
We meet on the first Thursday of every month (except July and August). You’re welcome to attend a Social Meeting as a guest before committing to anything.
Prospective Member Process
We ask prospective members to submit an application and complete four club activities within one year — at no cost. This gives you a chance to get to know us before you commit.
The four required activities are:
- Attend one Social Meeting
- Attend one Board Meeting
- Complete one Club Outing or overnight Cruise (on your own boat)
- Complete a one-hour Orientation
After you finish the four activities, your application goes before the Board of Directors for approval.

Your Mentors
Every prospective member is paired with two Mentors — active club members assigned by the Membership Chairperson. They’ll help you complete your required activities, introduce you to the community, and make sure you never feel lost among our 170 members.
Membership Costs
- One-time Initiation Fee: $200
- Annual Dues: $300 (pro-rated if you join mid-year)
What Are Reciprocals?
The Shelton Yacht Club has over 100 Reciprocal Agreements with yacht clubs along the West Coast of the U.S. and Canada. As a member, you can dock at these clubs at no cost or a very small utility charge — giving you access to exclusive facilities up and down the coast.
The Marina
Oakland Bay Marina is owned by the Shelton Yacht Club and open to the public. Slips are available to rent whether you’re an SYC member or not.
The Clubhouse
Members have access to the Clubhouse and can rent it for private events at a minimal charge.
